Storytelling Series- Women Who Made Us

Tortuga Storytelling Series - a collaboration between Storytellers of New Mexico and Tortuga Gallery - returns this July with "Women Who Made Us".

This month, the Tortuga Storytelling Series is proud to offer the talents of visiting storytellers, Juba Addison (Las Cruces) and Sean Buvala (Phoenix). Amidst the fine artist interpretations of Women Who Made Us, Juba and Sean will shower us with tales from folklore and their own personal journeys about women who you might identify with in your own lifeā€¦those who inspired through their work, in and outside the home, some that gave them a good belly laugh, strong women who rose up against all odds, and the women who nurtured them through all the good and challenging times of their lives, whether it be a friend, a mentor, a grandmother, or sister of blood or heart.

About the Tellers:

*Juba Addison*
Juba learned the art of storytelling from her grandmother Sarah Jane, a descendant of West African Griots. As a child, she loved listening to the wonderful village stories shared by her grandmother, aunts, and uncles. Juba's passion for storytelling gives her the opportunity to share stories that will educate, entertain, and encourage others to live their best lives.

*Sean Buvala*
Sean Buvala has been engaged with storytelling and communication since 1986. He started his work by accidentally using active storytelling to convert a classroom of slightly (but comically) homicidal 8th-grade teenagers from angry kids to storytelling practitioners themselves. From then on, both the kids and Sean were sold on the influence of a great story. An author, speaker, trainer, and performance artist, Sean describes the collection of stories in his head as "life and legend" representing the mix of stories from his experiences, myth and legend from many cultures, sacred stories, and observations of shared life events. Sean's appearances is sponsored in part by The Small-Tooth-Dog Publishing Group in Arizona.
