Songs from the Rez Fundraiser and CD Release

Songs from Meredith Wilder and Kristina Jacobsen from a year and half of co-writes. They have recorded an EP called Elemental which will be released the weekend of this event, a fundraiser for the Songs from the Rez: Navajo Nation Songwriting Retreat co-writing workshop. Doors open at 7pm, music at 7:30pm. Proceeds go to a scholarship fund for Diné high schoolers to attend the songwriting workshop. Opening act features the 2018 retreat Songwriter-in-Residence, Chucki Begay of Gray Mountain, Navajo Nation, accompanied by guitarist Ritchie Anderson, Jr.

Songs from the Rez is an intensive week-long songwriting workshop and yoga retreat offered in the heart of Navajo Nation in the rural community of Many Farms, Arizona. Workshop features daily songwriting assignments and guided mentoring from instructors, morning yoga classes, nightly song circles, voice lessons, mindfulness meditation, and a final performance open to community members. The experience also includes opportunities to try traditional Diné foods, including a visit to the local flea market in Chinle, an introduction to the culture, history and sovereignty of the second largest Native American nation, and is hosted by a prominent local Navajo family on their ancestral land. Workshop is modeled on co-writing and community building, and participants are paired with a different co-writer each day. Sunday, March 31 will be a fundraiser for two Dine high school students to attend this workshop. For more information visit:
