WHAT’S ENCAUSTIC?  THE BURNING QUESTION:

The ancient art of encaustic is where creativity meets hot beeswax, damar (tree resin) and endless mixed media possibilities.  There’s really only two rules.  One, that the materials used will absorb the hot wax, and two, that each layer must be fused or “burned in”.   (The term encaustic comes from ‘enkaustikos’, which is Greek for ‘to burn in’.)  Encaustic is a living, breathing, changeable medium that invites the artist to overcome any perfectionistic tendencies, yet requires one’s mindful attention whilst and at the same time inviting a sense of wonder, play, and discovery.
