Los Tres Fantásticos: More than Meets the Eye

The works of three fantastic artists is on display at Tortuga during the month of October, 2017.

Joshua Franco, Derrick Montez and Santiago Perez —revive the concept of the original Los Fantasticos (2009) by returning to surrealistic hijinks, realistic magicalism, and painterly
invention in this new iteration of the Fantasticos.

A beautiful display of huge, large and small works, standing painted-sculpture, full of color, humor, Pop and tradition, thoughtful invention, and elaborately painted with eye-dazzling effects.

Opening is Friday October 6 at 6pm. Music and light refreshments.

Share your Passion coming up

On Sunday September 24 from 2-7pm all are invited to share your passion.  What is it that fuels you? What keeps you moving toward a goal or dream?

Take some time to join people at Tortuga to share your passion with a talk, demonstration, video, poem, song, exercise or.... you decide.  Each presentation should be approximately 5 minutes.

The afternoon will include a potluck, so bring your own favorite, nourishing dish.

We are also celebrating out good friend Peter Trinh who is embarking on a new path in his journey. Donations received on this day will all go to Peter.

Consider joining this discussion- listen, hear, discuss, laugh, share.

Music coming this weekend +

On Saturday September 16, Tortuga is the lucky place to be: Ken Keppeler and Jeanie McLerie form the heart of Bayou Seco. They have been playing the music of the Southwest including Chilegumbo - Cajun two-steps, waltzes, polkas and rancheras, chotis's, meringues and huapangos. The sound crosses cultural definitions, is multi-lingual and transcends labels.

Bayou Seco will be receiving an award from the governor's office and Saturday we celebrate!

Cover $8-20

To stretch the weekend out just a bit, on Monday September 18, the Luke Gullickson Trio is celebrating the release of Wilderness, an album inspired by the Sabinoso Wilderness in northern New Mexico -- ringed by private land, this area is currently the only federally designated wilderness inaccessible to the public. Gullickson (guitar, Rhodes piano) will be joined by cellist Lisa Donald and violinist Donna Bacon to perform music from the album. Opening the evening is a solo set by the rambling Texas-based guitarist and musical explorer Andrew Weathers.
$8-15

March- Living Artifacts, Luna Project- all winding down

As the artifacts return to Tortuga, I am amazed at how quickly this month has passed by.  It has been full of beauty and art and lessons and experiences.  now the Artifacts return for one last look, a moment of gathering and connecting, a time a place to raise the awareness of each other and life.

Please consider coming to Tortuga on Wednesday March 29.  There will be a reception with the artists and workshop participants at 6pm.  The gallery will be open starting at noon for an earlier preview.

Living Artifacts are traveling

The Living Artifacts created by 17 women artists for Women & Creativity gathered at Tortuga to join the opening for Luna Project last Friday and are now traveling throughout the Albuquerque area.  Check for updates of locations here

Each artifact is an art playground inviting the viewer to touch, spin, write, reflect or add to the art. We hope you will purposefully wander the city to find the artifacts on their journeys.

On Wednesday March 29 all of the artifacts plus those created by the participants of the workshop will be back at Tortuga for a final night of art play.  You are invited to join the journey.

The Living Artifact Project is a sponsored event of Women & Creativity.  Check out all of the sponsored events at their website here.
